“Working on the African Hair Stories exposed me to truths I personally didn't know initially and have come to accept as a way of life. Reasons pertaining to why ladies keep their hair long and the histories behind them were never made known to us. Working on this project has enlightened me on how come we have had to cut our hair short among other valuable lessons. I have had the chance to also meet people with various reasons for wearing the styles they wear and all that. I've even come to understand hard hair and soft hair (haha).
Working with Dr. LaToya too has taught me a few lessons: to work with quality and not settle for less. Dr. has shown me not to settle for routine things but question why things are the way they are and by so doing get some answers to questions that we otherwise would not bother to ask or find out.
It's been amazing and I'm glad I was able to partake in this project with Dr. LaToya.”

“This project matters to me because as a young student on campus I am learning more about my self and what I can do. Additionally, soon I'll be on the job market and this project is a key experience for me so that I can expand my skills and learn more from Dr Brackett. What I have gained thus far is self worth, confidence, communication skills (which is very important), being a time keeper, being consistent—more knowledge and more skills.”
